There are reports in the Daily Mail that Jose Mourinho may look towards a summer swoop for Chelsea captain John Terry. Chelsea are set to finish the season empty handed – after their double heroics last season and will be keen to do all they can to hold on to their fans’ favourite.
Terry will turn 31 in December this year, but Chelsea still believe he has a number of years left at the top level. This is despite the fact that Terry has suffered from some recent injury concerns, these include long term nerve problems in his right leg and back problems.
Selling their leader would send out a significant message to their rivals in both the Premier League and the Champions League. However, Mourinho is confident is his ability to tempt Terry away from Stamford Bridge and is ready to make a move according to Italian sports paper La Gazzetta dello Sport. Mourinho is keen to end Barcelona’s dominance in Spain by rebuilding Real Madrid and wants to reunite Terry with former Chelsea defender Ricardo Carvalho. Carvalho has excelled at the Bernabeu this season since Chelsea opted to sell him for £6.6m last summer.
Mourinho has plenty of attacking options – but sees the duo as key as he looks to target trophies. The stumbling block will be convincing Chelsea to sell up as he is contracted until 2014. Chelsea though may decide now is the time to sell, while Terry still has a sizeable price tag.
