Mark Hughes may soon be heading for the St Mary’s exit door, with the Saints winless in the Premier League since September 1st. Reports in the Mirror now suggests Peter Bosz has appeared on Southampton’s radar.
The Chalkboard
The Mirror have claimed that club chiefs are teetering on sacking the Welshman who saved the club last season. Hughes has overseen a total of 22 games, but only five of those have been wins – a success rate of just 22.73%.
Most recently, his side travelled to Fulham on Saturday and, while they played well on the attack and scored twice, were beaten by the hosts 3-2 and dropped into the relegation zone.
As the board are keen to avoid a Mauricio Pellegrino repeat, managers across Europe are being touted with the St Mary’s hot seat – most recently Bosz.
The ex-Borussia Dortmund manager has been out of a job since last December when the Bundesliga side sacked the Dutchman – Bosz had gone winless in the Champions League group stage that year.

What would he change?
Bosz had a great career on his CV when he was appointed the head coach at the Westfalenstadion, moving from Ajax on the back of a Europa League final against Manchester United.
He is also keen to promote youth talent, something Southampton do so well themselves, and idolises the total football approach. The side Bosz selected to face United was even the youngest ever XI in a major European final.
The 55-year-old’s style of play was ferocious and caught the eye thanks to the high-energy, attacking nature it held – seemingly the perfect fit to return BVB to where Jurgen Klopp left and so far from what Hughes visualises at Southampton.
Why would he be a mistake?
At Dortmund, the wheels fell off the wagon massively for Bosz. What made the manager a success in his native Netherlands could not be replicated at a side that seemed perfect for it.
If the former midfielder could not carry his Ajax success to the Bundesliga with BVB, what hope has he got with doing that at Southampton? The side would need remoulding in every aspect, by no means a quick solution that would ensure Premier League survival.
Bosz is the type of manager the Saints should be looking at ahead of a new campaign or at least when survival has been secured.
A change of approach to a method engrained in the players humbled Frank de Boer at Crystal Palace, and he lasted just five games before he was booted out. Southampton cannot make the wrong call on who replaces Hughes.
