Everton defender Matthew Pennington is keen to return to Leeds United on loan, but the Championship club do not feel the same, according toÂYorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay.
What’s the word?
Pennington has been part of the Toffees’ setup since 2005 when he joined the club’s academy.
However, the 23-year-old has struggled to cement a regular spot in the team, and his chances look limited.
Last season, the centre-back joined Leeds on loan and went on to make 24 appearances for the Championship outfit.
According to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay, Pennington is keen to return to Leeds on a temporary basis, but Marcelo Bielsa is not keen on bringing in another defender.
What is Pennington’s best option?
The Warrington-born footballer signed a new long-term contract at Goodison Park in May, but there are no indications that he will get much game time under Marco Silva this season.
The best option for the centre-back would be to join another club on loan in order to get minutes on the pitch.
It seems that Pennington wants to go back to Elland Road, but there is no point in pushing for a move if the manager is not interested.
The young centre-back has only five days left to seal a loan arrangement, so he needs to move quickly or risk being left on the sidelines until at least January.
