Upon returning from international duty, Bayern Munich confirmed that the centre-back was suffering from a knee issue, requiring treatment and a recovery period. Upamecano's absence will now mean Eric Dier will almost certainly start the next three Bundesliga fixtures, against St. Pauli, Augsburg and Dortmund, as well as potentially both legs of the Champions League quarter-final tie with Inter. Indeed, the Englishman has made 18 appearances this season and is likely to be joined in central defence by Kim Min-jae, who himself has only just returned to training following injury.

Le Parisien has provided a clearer timeline for Upamecano's return, reporting that he is expected to be sidelined for five to six weeks. This means the France international could also miss the Champions League semi-finals, should Bayern progress.
