Maurizio Sarri’s perfect start at Chelsea continued on Saturday with a 3-2 win over London rivals Arsenal – a match that gives the new Blues boss maximum points from his first two Premier League games and a result that could have a key impact on who finishes inside the top four come the end of May.
It took the west Londoners just nine minutes to break the deadlock at Stamford Bridge when Jorginho unleashed Marcos Alonso down the left wing, leaving him to supply a square pass into Pedro’s path, and then doubled their lead shortly after as a simple ball over the top allowed Alvaro Morata a clear run at goal.
But Arsenal soon went level as the defensive side to Chelsea’s game proved far less formidable than their efforts in attack. 62-cap Brazilian Willian and Ross Barkley gifted the ball away before it eventually fiound its way to Henrikh Mkhitaryan at the edge of the box for a powerful curled finish, while the attacking midfielder then turned provider – setting up Alex Iwobi from the right byline.

Once Chelsea steadied themselves once again in the second half, however, the winner was eventually provided by Alonso, this time charging into the box on the underlap to tuck home an Eden Hazard cross.
