Pontus Jansson rejected the chance to leave Leeds United for Russian side Krasnodar in the summer, according to Swedish outlet Expressen.
What’s the word?
After a solid first season at Leeds United and an impressive World Cup campaign with Sweden, Russian side Krasnodar expressed an interest in Pontus Jansson and Expressen states Leeds accepted an offer for the central defender.
A final decision on a move was left down to the 27-year-old but he showed his loyalty to the Peacocks but rejecting the advances of Krasnodar, instead focusing on remaining at Elland Road and attempting to push for promotion to the Premier League.
Jansson is yet to feature for Leeds this season after returning from the World Cup with an injury but is likely to be a crucial player for Marcelo Bielsa’s side over the course of the season.
Is this a boost?
Leeds fans should certainly be delighted with the news that Jansson’s head was not turned by a potential move to Russian, but they should also be concerned about Andrea Radrizzani’s intentions seeing as he was supposedly willing to sell one of the club’s most important players, and one who is a big Elland Road favourite.

Jansson was a shining light for Leeds last year and is expected to slot straight back into Bielsa’s defence when he returns from injury, and with Liam Cooper also sidelined for the match against Swansea City on Tuesday, Luke Ayling was drafted into an unfamiliar role for the 2-2 draw.
The experience of Jansson could be crucial in the months ahead as Leeds fight for a return to the Premier League and this news will only increase his popularity at Elland Road.
