Former Sheffield United winger David Brooks started and impressed for Wales in the comprehensive 4-1 victory against the Republic of Ireland in their opening UEFA Nations’ League match in Cardiff, and Blades fans were quick to react.
The Yorkshire outfit sold the talented 21-year-old to Premier League side Bournemouth in July for a reported fee of £12m, which certainly looked good on paper given he had only made 37 first-team appearances for them – scoring three goals and providing a further eight assists.
However, his price tag may well quickly rise given his latest showing for his country, where he shone out wide and showed he is able to mix it with the likes of Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey on the international stage.
Sheffield United supporters, who can still vote for who should be the club’s top strike partnership this season, took to social media to give their thoughts on the wide man’s performance, and while one said “McCabe is a useless negotiator”, another said “that boy is going to be some player”.
