One of the most bizarre transfer scenarios could play out this summer if The Sun are to be believed.
The newspaper have laid claims that Manchester United are set to meet Leicester’s £80m asking price for Harry Maguire but they could also involve two of their defenders in a swap deal.
The pair in question are Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo who the report suggests could be offered to the Foxes in a transfer involving Maguire.
If the deal was completed on such terms it would be somewhat of a shock and one which is sure to divide opinion.
Leicester’s star central defender played a crucial hand last season, featuring in 31 games whilst also remaining an England regular.
On the other hand, both Bailly and Rojo struggled for regular minutes after spending large parts of the campaign out through injury. Between them, Man United’s defensive pair played just 17 Premier League matches in 2018/19.
With a shock swap deal potentially on the cards, what do certain writers at Football FanCast think? Have a read below to find out.
Billy Meyers:
“I think this is laughable. Not only will Leicester be getting two players who are considerably worse than Maguire, but they will be burdened with both Bailly’s and Rojo’s huge wages. Leicester will have been stitched up completely if this deal happens.”
Charles Jones:
“Why would Leicester swap one world-class centre-back for two mediocre ones? On the evidence that we have seen from United’s defence, a pairing of Bailly and Rojo would be much worse than Leicester’s current duo of Maguire and Evans. Not to mention the ridiculous wage demands both players will likely have if they arrive at the King Power. Leicester mustn’t accept this deal.”

James Beavis:
“If Leicester can get cash plus Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo for Harry Maguire, then it is a no-brainer for Brendan Rodgers. As much of a hit as the England international is at the King Power, he showed his weaknesses for England in the Nations League this month, and he isn’t irreplaceable. With the east Midlands outfit already having Filip Benkovic, Caglar Soyuncu and the reliable Jonny Evans in their ranks, they have the quality even if the additions of Rojo and Bailly didn’t pay off. While the former would be a risk, the latter has shown previously the quality that he has, and Leicester shouldn’t be turning their noses up at that.”
