Southampton suffered a 2-1 defeat to West Ham United in Thursday’s Premier League clash at St Mary’s.
Nathan Redmond sent Southampton ahead early in the second period, but Felipe Anderson levelled the scores shortly after before the Brazilian scored his second of the match just before the hour.
The result has left Southampton in 16th position in the Premier League table, just three points clear of the relegation zone.
In the 62nd minute of the clash, head coach Ralph Hasenhuttl decided to replace the team’s leading scorer this season – Danny Ings – with Shane Long.
Long had not scored in his 10 Premier League appearances ahead of the clash with West Ham, and drew another blank after coming off the bench.
The 31-year-old has actually only scored 27 times in 164 games for Southampton in all competitions, and the club’s supporters have taken to social media to slam the forward.
